Elbert Hudson, 95, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Richmond, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family.
Elbert was born on July 6, 1923 in Manchester, Kentucky, and was the son of Nicholas “Nick” Brewer Hudson and Martha Langdon Hudson, both of whom preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. He was Principal of Southside Elementary and Lee County High School prior to becoming Superintendent of Education for Lee County Public Schools, from which he retired in 1988. Mr. Hudson was a member of First Christian Church of Richmond, a 50 year member of the American Legion, and a 60 year member of the Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Julia Marie Bishop Hudson; and a son, James C. Hudson.
Survivors include: one daughter, Hazette Thompson (Jim); one daughter-in-law, Doris Hudson; three grandchildren, Tamara Hall (Darren), Paula Crosthwaite (Larry), and Chris Hudson (Shannon Sullivan); and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Crosthwaite, Ashley Hall, Garrett Crosthwaite, and Hayden Crosthwaite.
Funeral services for Elbert Hudson will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery with Military honors. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Monday until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Thompson, Larry Crosthwaite, Darren Hall, Chris Hudson, Garrett Crosthwaite, and Hayden Crosthwaite.
