Lee County Skills U is up and ready for you to come in and get your GED, College prep, Career Navigation and much more.  Mary Fields a career educator will replace former director Cheryl Botner.  Cheryl retired from Lee County Adult Education after 33 years of service in June. She had over 4000 students come through her center, and over 500 GED graduates. She has helped students over the years go on to medical school, nursing, education and career dreams.  

“We appreciate all of the work Cheryl did for Lee County and the individuals she helped,” said Executive Director of the Thorn Hill Consortium which includes: Bourbon, Estill, Lee, Franklin and Jackson counties.  “She will be missed and she certainly has big shoes to fill but I think we have a great individual to continue the great work being done in Lee County.”

Mary Fields an experienced director with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. She is skilled in E-Learning, admissions, educational technology, instructional design, and public speaking. Mary has a graduate degree from UWF.  She now takes over the center and will be open on Monday and Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

“Mary has a great deal of knowledge and experience in education and seemed like a natural fit for Lee County,” said Rector.  ‘She will work very hard and will make an immediate impact on the community.  I am excited and pleased she took on this new challenge.”

The Lee County Skills U Center has recently moved to the basement in the back of the Lee County Board of Education building located at 242 Lee Ave.  Parking and accessibility is excellent, and the classroom environment is prime for learning.  The Center offers free GED classes, career and college preparation, the WIN program, TABE testing.  All services are free and open to the community.
