Berea Community had two athletes sign to play at the next level last week. Senior volleyball player Alyssa Carter will take her talents to the University of the Cumberlands. She signed to play at UC last Friday with Coach Kathryn Hart. According to a news release from the school, Carter plans to major in Human Services and is planning on a career in social work.

Carter is a four-year volleyball player at Berea. She served as team captain and was selected to the All-District and Class A All-Regional team. She recorded the most kills and blocks for the Lady Pirates in 2017 and 2019. In addition to her time with Berea, Carter also competed on the Pinnacle and Dunam’s Club volleyball teams.

On Tuesday, Zane Brown signed to play college baseball at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio. Brown played baseball at Berea for five years and was selected to the All-District team in 2016 and 2017, All Regional Honorable Mention in 2016 and 2017, and was given the Golden Glove Award in 2017 and 2018.

Brown has led the 44th District in strikeouts over the past two seasons. In addition to his time with Berea, Brown has played on the Elite Baseball Club and Frankfort Bluesox travel teams.

Brown also played for the Berea basketball, football and golf teams.
