The Madison Southern Eagles evened their record at 3-3 (1-0 in 7th District) following a 28-27 homecoming win over Collins last Friday.
Quarterback Tobias Storm threw for 152 yards and a score and rushed for 53 yards and another score to pace the Eagles.
Storm also added a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown. Adrian Jones rushed for 80 yards, while Walt Smith added a touchdown on his lone rush of the game. Smith also caught six passes for 119 yards and a score.
Smith also handled the kicking duties, converting 2-of-3 extra point attempts.
Up next for the Eagles is a road game against the East Jessamine Jaguars (4-2).
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Ground game powers Berea on homecoming
Jaiden Cunningham rushed for 198 yards and three scores to pace the Berea Pirates to a 37-21 homecoming victory over Sayre last Friday night.
Jaylen Whitaker accounted for 194 yards (111 rushing and 83 passing) and a pair of scores in the win. Timmy Thompson added one touchdown on 33 yards rushing.
As a team, the Pirates (5-0) ground out 342 yards rushing on 31 attempts.
Tanner Hayden added 10 tackles on defense, while Thompson made seven stops. Cunningham and Whitaker also added two sacks each on the night.
The defense also forced a pair of turnovers, a fumble recovery by Logan Abney and an interception by Clayton Martinez.
The undefeated Pirates will travel to northern Kentucky Friday night to take on the 4-1 Dayton Green Devils.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Wickersham shines for Southern
Garrett Wickersham found the goal four times on Saturday as Madison Southern (8-5-3) blasted Anderson County, 8-1, at home Saturday.
Ru Lemmer added two goals of his own, and the Eagles also received goals from Jase Duerson and Chase Hechemy in the win.
Southern dropped its match to Lexington Catholic, 5-1, on Thursday. Wickersham added Southern’s lone goal in the game off an assist from Andrew Mayo.
Lady Pirates drop two
The Berea Lady Pirates (3-12) went 0-2 on the week, dropping a 3-1 road contest to Lincoln County and a 4-1 game at Southwestern.
Madison Cummins added the squad’s goal against Lincoln County off an assist from Evi Stefan. Cummins also scored against Southwestern.
Berea stumbles in loss to Central
The Berea Pirates (13-12) lost to Madison Central 3-0 last Wednesday. Malyah Penn added 12 kills, 9 assists, 22 digs and four aces in the match.
Taelor Alexander added 4 kills and 32 digs, while Faith Dennis finished with 24 assists. Sophia Dobbins added 10 kills in the three-game match.
Eagles knock off Pulaski, Central
The Madison Southern Eagles (19-3) knocked off Pulaski County, 3-0, on Sept. 24. Sarah Mitchell added 13 kills and 14 digs in the win.
Alyssa Evans chipped in with 9 kills, 8 blocks and 11 digs. Kennedy Easterling added 15 assists, while Kyla Atkins finished with 16 assists, 8 digs and 6 aces.
