* The 13th annual Sag Hollow Invitational Golf Tournament was held over the weekend in Booneville and the weather forecast of rain and flash floods caused a few players who had signed up to cancel but in the end there was only a few sprinkles of rain. Over 70 golfers were expected but after the cancellations 50 golfers participated. It was still a great tournament, with five flights battling for a first place prize of $500 and second place of $250. The flights were determined after the first day's scores and there were approximately 10 golfers to each flight.
The championship flight was won by Zach Norris of McKee. Norris, currently a golfer for the University of Kentucky, scored a 70-67 (137). His -7 was one better than local golfer Randy Osborne, who shot a 70-68 (138). Another club member, Eric Mason, was third with a 68-75 (143). Fourth place was claimed by Matt Gann of Pineville with a 146 score. Gann won in a scorecard playoff over Trey Bowling of Manchester. The recent rains had softened the course and had it playing extremely long for the championship golfers, who played from the back tees at close to 7,000 yards. But long bomber Norris was hitting his drives well over 300 yards and generally had less yardage to the pins than the others which paid off with good shots into the greens and led to five birdies and an eagle on Sunday, the second and final day of the tournament.
The first flight was won by Tad Barton of London, who scored a 144 two day total score. Second place was won by Deron Sizemore of Manchester with a 145. Tanner Morgan of McKee was third with a 156 and Kyle Bobrowski of Booneville was fourth with a 157.
The second flight was won by Mark Keith of Harlan with a total score of 158. He won in a playoff against Brett Widner of Harlan, who also scored 158 and claimed second place. Joe Carroll, also from Harlan, was third with a 162. Fourth place was won by Shawn Barton of London with a 164.
The third flight was won by Tracy Noble of Campton with a 166 score. Finishing second was Mason Short of Irvine with a 170. Third place was won by Trevor Sizemore of Manchester with a 171 after winning a scorecard playoff over Bobby Kirby of Irvine, who finished fourth.
The fourth flight was won by Chris Lunsford of Lexington after he carded a 180 score. Jim Bowling of Manchester came in second with a 182 score. Third place was claimed by Delbert Brown of Stanton with an 184 and fourth was won by Chunk Green of Booneville who shot a 185.
* After Saturday's first round was completed a delicious dinner was provided by the ladies of the club and received much praise from the crowd. Some even took pictures of the dinner spread to take back home to show others that didn't come to the tournament what they missed. Also a big thanks to Booneville Shopwise for providing the drinks for the dinner. And another huge thanks to Randy Osborne, Rodney Trosper, Marvin Bennett, Greg Kemper, Eric Mason, Chunk Green, Tony Burch, and Michaela Reynolds for helping get the course ready or working in the clubhouse.
