The Owsley County Middle School girls basketball teams have been busy the past few weeks as their basketball season has kicked into action. The girls took on Jackson City on the road and came away with a 39-12 victory. Carly Smith led the way with 30 points, Addison Terry added 14, Shelby Murray 6, and Tanisha Back 2. Murray also had 15 rebounds. Blakesley Whitaker had 8 rebounds. Owsley led 29-4 at the half and coasted thereafter.
Later in the week the Lady Owls played Clay County and ran away to a 43-21 win. Seventh grader Addison Terry had a big game and led in points with 17. Carly Smith pitched in with 15 points, Aailyah Lynch had 7, and Shelby Murray 4. Murray also had 17 rebounds. Blakesley Whitaker had 9 rebounds. Madison Curry Led Clay County with 10 points.
The Lady Owls 7th grade also defeated Clay, winning 23-20. Addison Terry led with 17, Blakesley Whitaker had 8 and Tanisha Back had 1.
Owsley County also visited Jackson County and won by a score of 51-34. Carly Smith topped all scorers with 30 points. Shelby Murray had 10 points and 14 rebounds, Addison Terry had 5 points to go along with 5 steals and 4 assists. Blakesley Whitaker had 4 points and 9 rebounds, and Kailey Shouse had 2 points and 5 rebounds. Jackson County was led in scoring by Sammie Creech with 12 points.
