Coach Travis McDaniel and the 2019 Generals football squad hosted Lynn Camp last week in a 7-on-7 practice. General’s Head Coach Travis McDaniel reported, “We are attacking every day with a blue collar mentality. In summer camp, we are pushing the kids hard, prepping them in a way that their bodies aren’t use to, but we wanted to see how they respond. If we don’t prepare them for what they will experience on Friday nights, we aren’t doing our jobs. The hardest thing you can do in a program is change the culture because you are changing so many different people. It’s easy to install a new offense or defense, but getting them all to buy in to a new culture, is difficult.
We have also competed in some 7on7 games & once we tested the waters, we understood that we could compete. I’ve told the kids that we have to quit barely sticking our toes in & do a cannonball from the start. We have seen some teams who are on our schedule & experienced some success which allows our kids to understand that we can compete.
Our kids are starting to understand what we want & understand what it takes to be successful. I’ve told them on multiple occasions that I like our team because we have good kids who buying in. I’ve told them they are laying the foundation & hammering some nails to what will one day be looked at as a success. I’m not for sure when that will happen for this group, but if we continue working hard & stay the course, it will happen sooner rather than later.”
