The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post is continuing their investigation of an Owsley County High School teacher, who was arrested earlier this month for sexual offenses. As a result of the ongoing investigation, James Cornett was arrested last Friday and charged with two additional counts of Sexual Abuse, 1st Degree. He is currently lodged in the Jackson County Detention Center in McKee, KY under a $20,000 cash bond.
The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was initially contacted on November 11, 2019 about allegations of an Owsley County High School Teacher who had sexual contact with two students.
As a result of the initial investigation, James S. Cornett, 40 years old of Beattyville, KY, was arrested and charged with two counts of Sexual Abuse, 1st Degree.
