Recently, this amazing group of talented athletes made up of ages 6 through 8 made their journey to Corbin to play in the Little League Area II 8U Coach Pitch Allstar tournament. They had to win two games to advance to the District. On June 21st they beat out an exceptional South Laurel team in a score of 8-4 to play Corbin in the championship. These boys played phenomenal, winning 11-5 and earning the title of Area II Little League Coach Pitch Champs!

In District action, on June 29th they played a hard fought match and fell to Hazard-Perry Co. Allstars 15-5. Since it was a double elimination tournament, they continued on coming up strong against Harlan Co. 21-7 advancing on to face Corbin again. “We knew it would be tough going in”, coach Robby Thomas noted, “to beat Corbin twice at Corbin was no easy task.” Trailing the entire game until the 6th inning, Jackson Co. never gave up. They battled back in the 6th inning scoring six runs to upset Corbin by a decision of 16-12. They then went on to the deciding game that would determine who went on to play at the state level.

They again faced Hazard-Perry Co., who had already defeated them once. Jackson Co. came out strong in what would be a defensive battle, leading the entire game and going into the 6th and final inning on top 4-2. Hazard didn’t go away though. Getting three quick outs, it seemed as if everything Jackson Co. hit went straight to them. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Hazard ended up scoring three runs to win 5-4. In the end, only one run would separate Jackson Co.’s first ever 8U Coach Pitch Allstar team from making a run at the State Tournament.

When all is said, these boys played with so much joy, heart, skill, and most importantly sportsmanship. They encouraged and lifted one another up and created bonds that will last a lifetime. They went from a blended group of talented young players to a cohesive army of ballers. They were head coached by Robby Thomas and assisted by Gary Lakes, Travis Bingham, and Brian Gabbard. The dedicated coaches, supportive fans, and loving families couldn’t be any prouder of these boys! Thank you for your hard work! We can’t wait to see what your future holds! GO JACKSON!
