Twenty-four football seasons ago Breathitt High moved from Class 3A to Class 2A in the KHSAA football alignment; it promptly reeled off 42 consecutive wins, including back-to-back state championships (1995 and 1996). It was a good move.
The Bobcats competed in Class 2A for 12 seasons (1995-2006) before being placed back in Class 3A, where they competed for another 12 seasons (2007-2018). And now, after spending the past 24 seasons equally in Class 2A and Class 3A, Breathitt has been placed back in Class 2A for the upcoming 2019 season. Bobcat fans hope the move from 3A to 2A will play out as it did 24 seasons ago.
