Kentucky River Medical  Center  today  announced  that  Derek Cimala has been named CEO of Kentucky River Medical Center, effective  May 20. John Ballard, Ph.D., FACHE, will be leaving Kentucky River Medical Center, effective May 17.

Ballard will begin as CEO of Forrest City Medical Center in Arkansas on May 20. "For a little  over four years, John has helped our organization  provide exceptional local access to care for Jackson, Kentucky residents," said Dan Mcintyre, Board Chair. "We will all miss him and wish him the best in his new role."

 "Derek is highly experienced in hospital operations and we are excited to have him join the Kentucky River family,"  said Mcintyre. "With  more than 25 years of healthcare experience, he is credited  with guiding hospitals to achieve various national  recognition awards, as well as building high-performing medial teams through  effective physician recruitment strategies."

Most recently, Cimala served as the interim  CEO of Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, West Virginia and Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, West Virginia. During his tenure, he managed various facility projects  such as new construction and remodels and focused on physician recruitment to attract 15 new physicians within  one year.

"I  am excited to join Kentucky River Medical Center. The hospital has an impressive team of caring clinicians and dedicated staff who I'm honored to begin working alongside," said Cimala.

He earned his bachelor of science in finance from the University  of Tennessee.
