Police agencies were in a mad scramble Sunday afternoon as a woman was shot and they were looking for two male shooters.

After several hours of searching, they found out the woman had shot herself.

Emily Jones, of Hazard, was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg.  She allegedly shot herself with a 4-10 sawed off shotgun.

The original call stated that two men fled the scene after shooting her, the caller later admitted he did not tell the truth.

Wayne Henson, 49, of Elk Creek, told police he wasn’t there and didn’t know what had happened, according to his police citation.

Other witnesses at the scene said Henson was at the residence at the time of the shooting. He later admitted to police he was there and didn’t want to be “a rat”.  He said he was on the porch at the home when he heard the shot fired.

Henson was charged with falsely reporting an incident.

The shooting put quite a scare into the Elk Creek community as U.S. 421 was shut down while police searched for the alleged shooters Sunday night.
