The leading vote-getters in Clay County in the governor’s race both lost their bid for their party’s nomination.
Governor Matt Bevin was unpopular with Clay County voters as his vote total was more than doubled. Robert Goforth received 1,857 to Bevin’s 648 votes.
On the Democrat side, Rocky Adkins won Clay County with 139 votes to Andy Beshear with 91. Adam Edelen finished with 31.
Bevin won the Republican nomination statewide and Beshear the Democrat. The two will battle in November to be the state’s next Governor.
Clay County had a poor turnout with only 2,885 voting. Greenbriar had the most voters with 316.
