Approximately 12 miles. That's what 15-year-old Joseph Wayne Felton says he walked after he left his Lyttleton home early Wednesday morning.
The Clay Sheriff's Department, Manchester City Police and Lockard's Creek/Manchester Fire units all responded and had been searching for Felton for hours.
Chief Deputy Clifton Jones was enroute to a call in the Burning Springs area when he spotted Felton, who suffers from a disability, walking along US 421 on what's commonly called "The Mile Stretch".
Jones asked the boy if he was given a ride to the area and he repeatedly said no that he had walked.
The boy was brought back to Manchester and returned to the custody of his family.
"It's not often these stories turn out good," Sheriff Patrick Robinson said. "I'm glad he's safe and this situation turned out good for him and his family."
