The Lady Tigers are in a much different position than their counterpart in the boys. Coach Burchell and Co. will meet Oneida Baptist on December 2nd, followed by Bell County at home on December 5th. Clay County had previously defeated OBI and Bell in their matchups last season, this season should tell the same story.
Oneida Baptist finished their 2018 campaign having went 4-26 on the year. However, they return four senior starters this go around. The Lady Mountaineers return guards Emilie Field and Felisha Engle, along with Erica Metzger and Katy Schroeder. Oneida should be much improved as Coach Jacinta Newsome is bringing stability to the program. Clay County should continue their reign of dominance over the Lady Mountaineers, however.
OBI will look to stop Kaylee Mathis, who has averaged over 20ppg in each game she’s played against the Lady Mountaineers. This game is at Clay County High School on December 2nd. Tip -off is set for 6:00PM.
Bell County (13-18) will make the trip to Clay County on December 5th. Bell has been the underdog in the 52nd district behind Harlan and Harlan County for recent years, and finally overcame the Black Bears and Green Dragons to return to the regional tournament last season. Many expect Bell to attempt to dethrone HCHS this year, as they are led by Abby Harris (17.6ppg). Harris is joined by Ashtyn Meyers (11.6ppg) and Abigail Cornett (6.8ppg).
The Lady Tigers ultimately should sit at 2-0 on December 6th, but there are no guarantees. You can never overlook anyone in the 13th region. Clay is set to tip-off with Bell County at 6:00PM on December 5th.
