For the first time in school history, the Tiger golf team is ranked number two in the state of Kentucky! Recently winning the Montgomery County Invitational, the Tigers fired a 298 to defeat 22 other teams to push themselves from #3 in the state to #2. Clay would jump from #10 to #3 in less than a week.
Jakob Begley fired a 73 to lead the team individually. C.J. Corum and Justin Begley 74, Harley Davidson 77, Chase Campbell 83. “I’m extremely proud of these guys,” said Tiger coach Jason Smith. “What they have accomplished so far this season has never been done before in this golf program. To be in the top three in the state with the sheer number of division 1 golf prospects this state boasts is simply astounding.”
Smith paid tribute to the late Zenus “Bug” Campbell as well, as he knows none of this would be possible without the visionary behind the golf course Big Hickory here in Manchester. “Bug would be so proud,” said Smith. “He would be so proud of what his 9-hole golf course has become a part of, as so many skilled and unbelievably talented golfers have passed through and learned the game at Big Hickory.
The Tiger golf team are winding the season down, steamrolling nearly everyone standing in their way. Their quest for a 13thregion title continues. If you see the team, give them a congratulations on their highest ranking ever! Side note, they are also the highest ranked public school in the state!
