MANCHESTER – Advancing to a 22-2 record, the Clay County Tiger softball team demoralized the Corbin Redhounds 9-0 on Monday evening. Brianda Owens tossed yet another shutout, while Tori North smashed four hits with 4 RBI to lead the Tiger offense at the plate. Emma Hurd would tally three hits of her own to help pace the Tigers.
Clay would jump on Corbin early, throwing a knockout punch in the 1stinning by scoring seven runs right off the bat. Emma Hurd is instant offense, as she singled to lead things off. Add in a single from team hit leader Shelby Phillips, and a walk from Maddie Frazier, and Clay already has the bases loaded for Brianda Owens.
Owens, who tossed the complete game, helped herself on the mound by giving the Tigers a comfortable lead with a 2 run RBI shot to left field. Allie Phillips would single to bring home Frazier, followed by an RBI single from Hailey Napier. Things kept rolling for Clay, as the runs poured in from top to bottom in the Clay lineup.
Corbin would hold the Tigers scoreless until Clay would finally add two insurance runs in the 4thinning to ice things over. Owens was once again fantastic in the pitcher’s circle, tossing a two-hit 3 strikeout performance. The defensive play from Clay County was nothing short of fantastic, as they made all but one play, finishing the contest with only one error.
