Two members of the Knox County Democrat Woman’s Club met with Knox County Jailer, Mary Hammons and made a donation to the new Detention Facility of women’s backpacks. These backpacks were designed to be given to women leaving jail and going into drug rehabilitation facilities. Each backpack was filled with numerous items including a warm throw, a few articles of clothing and items for personal hygiene use.
Knox County Democrat Women members, Dora Sue Oxendine Farmer and Ada Leger met with Mary Hammons who gave the women a personal tour of the new detention facility which is not yet open to the public. “I was very impressed with the overall functional design of the facility especially the area created for the GED classes and the library created for the inmates’ use,” remarked Ms. Farmer.
The opening date of the facility is still unknown according to Ms. Hammons.
