After some concern in the community that this year’s Little League numbers were down in Knox County, Sonny Lawson set the record straight that its very much, “Alive and well.”

“The numbers were low a couple of weeks ago, but they always pick up before the deadline,” Lawson said. “We’ve had a lot of kids sign up just before the deadlines. Little League is definitely alive and well in Knox County.”

The league now has 33 baseball/softball teams ranging from ages 3-12. There are nearly 400 kids signed up. Wee Ball, Tee Ball and Coach Pitch are still taking players. April 13 is cutoff for Coach Pitch, April 20 for Tee Ball and April 27 for Wee Ball.

Jason Hembree, Dave Collins and Kirby Jones are over the Little League and Lawson spoke about their contributions.

“Those guys do an excellent job,” Lawson said. “They spend a lot of time and money out of their own pockets.”

The games will start around the last week of April and they will be be played on Monday’s, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s. Makeup games will be held on Saturdays. Each team will play two game per week.
