At the Knox County Chamber of Commerce banquet on Tuesday, November 19, Rev. Leonard Lester will receive the Man of the Year Award. 

Lester is a two-term president of the Knox County Ministerial Association, a long-time member of the Chamber of Commerce and UNITE Coalition, and served as an election official for three decades.

Lester was born in Virginia on September 3, 1947. He revived a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology and became an ordained minister in 1970. Away from church he went into business with his father in commercial construction until his father’s health caused the to close.

Lester has been the pastor at First Advent Christian Church in Barbourville for 32 years, beginning in 1987 on his 40th birthday. For nearly 20 years he’s provided ministry at medical clinics and churches across the area. He would serve 12 years as treasurer of the Knox County Ministerial Association before two terms as president.

He served as Manager of Elections for 10 years under three clerks. Later he served as Sheriff of Elections at the polls for 20 years.
