A man who allegedly murdered Gary Medlin in January of this year has been indicted by a Knox County grand jury.
Phillip Lee Lewis, 25 of Flint, Mich., was charged with murder, robbery in the first degree and persistent felony offender in the second degree by the grand jury on November 22.
Lewis is charged in the shooting death of Gary Medlin during an attempted robbery of the A&B Quick Stop at Gray.
Since Medlin’s death, Lewis has maintained his innocence. Earlier this year, in an exclusive sit-down interview with staff of The Mountain Advocate, Lewis said, “I do not kill. I steal. I am not no killer.”
During earlier court hearing for Lewis, Medlin’s friends and family gathered outside the Knox County Courthouse wearing #justiceforgary shirts. Medlin’s mother, Brandi Frechette, said that day “...we’re just here to make sure he’s not forgotten.”
Lewis is scheduled for a pretrial conference at 1 p.m. on December 6.
