The Fiscal Court listened to updates on the new jail at the February 27 meeting.
Construction of the new Knox County Detention Center is 75%-80% finished and running ahead of schedule, according to a report by Doug Smith of Codell Construction.
The progress is due, in part, to few work days missed because of inclement weather.
The committee agreed to approve the construction bill estimate at just over $600,000.
Also, Judge Mitchell and the committee discussed road maintenance, calling it an essential public service. They agreed to apply for funding through a program that offers up to $5,000 for evaluation, training, and signage in designated areas. This program is in cooperation with the Transportation Cabinet.
