For the first time since 2017, the Harlem Globetrotters will be taking to the court at The Arena in Corbin.
Tickets for the December 14 game will go on sale at 10 a.m. July 24 at harlemglobetrotters.com, Ticketmaster, or the Corbin Arena box office.
Arena Manager Kristi Balla said while she is excited to have the Globetrotters return to Corbin, the fact that it is in the midst of basketball season, and that it is a weekend date, makes it more of an opportunity for the venue.
“This is a legendary institution that we get to host in Corbin,” Balla said. “They are great to work with, and we always have a great crowd come out for the show. But this is the first time to host them for a weekend show.”
The Globetrotters are known for getting the fans involved in the action, whether it is teaching a children to spin a basketball on their finger, having an impromptu dance with the lady attempting to retrieve her “lost” purse, or dousing a section of fans with a bucket of confetti.
However, the organization is working to increase the opportunities for fans to directly interact with the players, whether it is before during or after the event.
Before the event, the players will host the Magic Pass event. Fans who purchase a Magic Pass ticket, will have the opportunity to learn tricks, shoot hoops, and take pictures on the court.
After each game, the players will host a free autograph session.
Globetrotters scheduled to appear in Corbin include: Big Easy Loften, the self –proclaimed “Best-looking player on the team,” ball handler Ant Atkinson, dunk master Hi-Lite Bruton, jack of all trades Bull Bullard, who can thrill the crowd with the 4-point shot or with a variety of spectacular dunks, and Cheese Chisholm, who defied the naysayers to succeed at basketball.
“Stay strong, and know who you are as a person, “ Chisholm tells children when asked how to overcome adversity.
“Write down all of your goals on a big piece of paper and tape them to your wall, so you can see them every day,” Chisholm added. “You will need to work hard, but you should never lose sight of those goals, because they are right in front of you in big letters.”
Balla said the venue’s calendar is filling up quickly through the end of the year.
“With private events and rentals, we have something about every weekend,” Balla said.
