The Knox County Board of Education gave special recognition to fourth grade student, Alli Holstean, for winning first place in the state-wide 2019 KET Young Writers Contest, fourth grade division

The Knox County Board of Education met in regular session at the Board of Education Annex Building on Monday, May 20.

Communications

The Knox County Board of Education gave special recognition to fourth grade student, Alli Holstean, for winning first place in the state-wide 2019 KET Young Writers Contest, fourth grade division.

“The significance of this is: students all across the state compete and for us to have a first place winner in the fourth grade division is very honorable,” Mr. Sprinkles, Knox County Superintendent, said, “we are very pleased to present this recognition to Alli Holstean.”

Holstean was congratulated for her efforts. She received a certificate and the audience applauded for this accomplishment.              

Architect Construction Updates

According to Amanda Gardner, employee for the Lighting/Energy Saving Project for Knox County Schools, The gym lighting control project has begun in Knox County Middle School. Lynn Camp Elementary is completed. Lynn Camp High School is completed. Installation of parking lot lighting is planned to begin once School is dismissed. Interior lighting project is still on going. Every school in Knox County will be replacing their lights with LED lighting county wide.

School Activity/PTO/External Booster Tentative Budgets for 2019-2020 — According to Sprinkles, the budget for Lynn Camp will not be approved until June of 2019 but all other schools are accounted for.

Student Fees and/or dues District Wide for FY20 — The Board chose to remove parking lot fees from all Knox County school systems for the 2020 school year.

• Four Special Need Student’s Shortened School Week/Day Waiver

• the Letter of Agreement between Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation and Knox Central High School/Knox County Public Schools

• Continued Grant - MOU between Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, Kentucky Campus Compact and Knox County Board of Education and Lynn Camp Schools

Resources and Support Systems

• Contract with Cumberland River Comprehensive Care Center for School-Based Treatment Services for August 2019 – July 2020 academic school year

• Staffing — A Certified Speech Pathologist position will be added to Knox Middle School.

—Knox Central High School as well as Lynn Camp will add two additional sports: eSports and Wrestling for the 2020-21 school year.

According to Principal of Knox Central, this will add college scholarships for high school students.

• General Release was approved by the Board.

• Several out of state/country trips were approved by the board. Lynn Camp BETA Club will be going to Oklahoma City to compete in the National BETA Club Competition. Lynn Camp Travel Club will be going to Rome in 2020. Knox Central High School Travel Club will be going to Italy in 2021.
