On Friday, November 22, a group of students from the Union college nursing program ran a health fair at Central Elementary in Barbourville.

The fair featured presentations on oral hygiene, healthy eating, and much more. The group came by earlier in the week as well to demonstrate other healthy habits in the classroom.

The fair was among the final stages of this group of students’ education. The class graduates next May and was fulfilling an hours requirement related to community outreach as was explained by Casey Patterson, one of the 15 nursing students who participated.

The fair and the activities earlier in the week were organized by Catie Walters, another of the nursing students.

“It’s been great being able to give back to the community and make a positive impact on so many kids,” Walters said.

The students partnered with the Central Elementary Family Resource Center to get the event off the ground.
