Audrey Abner

Mrs. Audrey Abner was born July 16, 1956 at Roadfork, in Knox County, Kentucky to Rev. Mark Lee Mills and Axie Mills. She passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Audrey was preceded in death by her Mother and best friend, Axie Mills, and by her dear sister, Erma Hubbs.

Audrey was a devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Audrey began working at 18 years of age for Warner’s in Barbourville, Kentucky and worked there until the plant closed in 1996. From there she worked at American Greeting in Corbin, Kentucky before accepting a position at Aisin Automotive Casting in London, Kentucky and worked there until illness forced her to retire. Over the years, she worked in many different positions in her careers and met and made lifelong friends that she treasured.

On July 1, 1989, Audrey united in marriage to Carl Wayne Abner. Carl Wayne brought three children to their marriage and Audrey was a proud step-mother to them. Audrey helped raise and guide her niece, Karen and nephew, Steven to adulthood. They consider her to be a Mother to them, and they will miss her deeply. Audrey was also a special Nana to their children, Payton and Chloe.

Audrey was “Mamaw” to Devin, Jared, Jerica, Kathryn, Reese, Kiera, Khloe, Kirk and Kenyon.

Her nieces and nephews: Dawson, Brandi, Miranda, Preston Lee and Amy Jo will miss her dearly.

Audrey enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to cook big meals, bake and make candy - especially, fudge. She loved going treasure hunting at the local Goodwill, but she always said her most favorite thing of all was just sitting on the front porch with Carl Wayne, talking about their day and passing time together.

Left behind to mourn Audrey is her loving husband of thirty years, Carl Wayne Abner of Cranes Nest, Kentucky; her step-children: Ms. Leona Broughton of Gray, Kentucky, and Mrs. Felicia Sweatt (Tony) of Hazard Kentucky and  Mr. Jerry Abner of Barbourville, Kentucky; And her special children, Karen Hatch and husband Wayne of London, Kentucky and Steven and Angie May of Cranes Nest. Also left behind to mourn Audrey’s passing are her father, Rev. Mark Lee Mills, her sisters and brothers: Zelma Evans (Eddie) of Columbia, Tennessee and Anette Broughton (Randy) of Cannon, Kentucky. Preston Mills (Peggy) of Cranes Nest, Kentucky and Zandall Mills (Jayne) of Route 229, Kentucky.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Darrell Bargo and Reverend Lonnie Collett officiating. The Abner Family will welcome friends for visitation at 6:00 PM Saturday July 27, 2019. Family will be received at 5:00 PM Saturday. The Abner Family has asked that beloved friends and family members be pallbearers.
