Artemus, Ky. - Leah Jane Lawson Bargo, age 80, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019 in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Vergie Campbell Lawson, born to them on March 7, 1939, in Artemus. Leah Jane was a retired bookkeeper from American Greetings. She loved to quilt, cook, and host family gatherings. Leah Jane loved her church. She was a devoted and active member of the First Baptist Church of Artemus. Upon her retirement, she and her husband, Curtiss, traveled and lived in 46 of the 50 states during his tenure at Irby Construction. She enjoyed being a grandmother and her favorite name was G-MA.
Leah Jane united in marriage to James Curtiss Bargo on April 19, 1957, and to this union four children were born. Along with her parents, Leah Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband Curtiss, a daughter, Quetha Jo Boles, a son, Craig Curtiss Bargo, a sister, Lorraine Lawson Sowders, a brother, Landell Tye Lawson and a brother-in-law, Charles Sowders.
Leah Jane is survived by her loving family, who include her son-in-law, Jerry Boles, her daughter-in-law, Glenda Gray Bargo, both of Barbourville; a son, Gregg Bargo of Casa Grande Arizona; a daughter, Esteva Bargo Asher and husband Jim of Artemus; and son, Eddie Lay of Louisville.
Leah Jane is also survived by her grandchildren: Leah Beth Boles Phipps and husband, Jeff, Brianna, Nicholas, and Jeree Boles; Kacee Jo and Chandler Bargo; Elijah, and his wife, Flo, Grayson and Rebecca Bargo; Zackary and Brady Asher and her great grandchildren: Tanner, Trey and Ann Tyler Phipps, Indi Jane and Gabriel Bargo, Knox Asher and Willa Boles. Her sister-in-law, Janice Welch Lawson of Dearborn, Michigan is also left behind to mourn Leah Jane along with numerous friends and extended family.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Bargo were held Saturday, October 19 at 12:30 p.m. at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Steve Mayle and Rev. Ronnie Owens officiating. Visitation was Friday, October 18, 2019 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and on the day of the funeral (Saturday) from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. Burial was immediately following the service at the Barbourville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Pete Baber, Jared Bargo, Courtney Campbell, Todd Hurley, Kevin Partin, Tim Smith, Neil Watkins and Tim Ore. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were her Sunday School class at First Baptist Church Artemus, as well as, her extended family through Irby Construction and American Greetings, Inc.
