The Bell County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public of a scam that is circulating the community.

The scam is targeting restaurants and businesses with claims that they are with the home office of the business. Arby’s of Pineville reported a call Monday and the caller knew the appropriate names of those in charge and stated that he was on his way to the restaurant to conduct an investigation into missing money. According to the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, the caller went on to ask the employee to disclose to him the amount of money on hand and also in the safe. The employee had a feeling that something wasn’t right so they hung up the phone and called the number of the home office contact who stated there was no such investigation being conducted.

If your business has been a victim of this scam, please call Bell County Dispatch at 337-6174 to report the incident and details. According to Sheriff Mitch Williams it may help to prevent another business from being taken advantage of.
