Yvonne Gilliam is resigning as the superintendent of the Bell County School System.

The Board of Education accepted her letter of resignation at Tuesday night’s meeting. Gilliam’s resignation as superintendent will be effective on June 30 when her current contract expires. However, she resigned immediately from her role as the secretary to the board.

The board also approved a limited work calender for Gilliam going forward that will allow her to use accumulated sick days and still fulfil her contract.

Gilliam was not present at Tuesday’s meeting and declined to comment to the Pinevilel Sun.

In a related step, the board hired Tom Gambrel to fill the position of secretary to the board.

See next week’s Pineville Sun for more from the Bell County Board of Education meeting.
