A seven-run fourth inning powered the Middlesboro Lady Jackets to an 11-1 win over Harlan Tuesday evening.

Junior Hannah McCullough struck  out the first five batters she faced and was perfect until giving up a two-out single in the third inning. She finished with eight strikeouts while giving up just the one hit and walking one over four shutout innings to earn the victory.

Freshman Kailey Owens struck out two in her one inning of work. She allowed one unearned run on a passed ball while giving up one hit and walking one.

The Lady Jacket offense was held to just one hit — a Lindsay Buis single — through the first two innings. But finally got on the board in the bottom of the third. With two out, consecutive singles by Jamarah Young, Aubrey Sowders  and Shelby Frazier produced a run for a 1-0 lead.

Middlesboro’s bat then got rolling in the fourth. J.J. Brown and Buis both walked and Sidney McWilliams singled to load the bases. One run scored as Macey Mink reached on an error and another crossed the plate when McCullough also reached on an error. Young had an RBI single and Frazier drove in two with a hard single down the left field line. Brown’s double into the gap in left extended the lead to 8-0.

After Harlan got one run in the top of the fifth, the Lady Jackets put the game away with three runs in their half of the inning.

McWilliams beat out a bunt single and stole second and third. Mink walked and stole second. McCullough brought McWilliams home with single and advanced all the way to third as Mink scored on a wild pitch.Young ended things with a drive to left that fell in for a two-base error as McCullough scored the walk-off run.

Middlesboro (6-6) is scheduled to visit Harlan County on Thursday, then host Claiborne Monday and visit Bell County on Tuesday.
