The Middlesboro Middle School Yellow Jackets pose with cheerleaders and coaches after their 46-20 win over Williamsburg on Saturday at Union College in their conference championship game. MMS advances to the state playoffs where they’ll take on Campbellsville on Oct. 19 in Williamsburg.
“We set this goal at the beginning of the season,” said Middlesboro coach Charlie Lambert. “We set out to go undefeated in the regular season, win the conference and make as deep of a push into the state tournament as we possibly can. People have been saying for years that they couldn’t wait until this team made it to middle school and eventually high school. We’re at that point now, and I think everyone can see what type of potential this group has.”
“I’ve had a lot of these guys since they were five years old,” said Lambert. “They’ve been playing together for a long time, they know how each other play. They’re getting really good at playing off of each other. They’re a very unselfish bunch of kids and they’re very coachable. If we can prepare well and focus on the things we are supposed to do, I think we have a really good shot at making a deep run into the tournament.”
